Ad Spendings on Social Networking Sites

eMarketer Daily newsletter of March 26, 2007 has a chart on “worldwide online social network ad spending, 2006, 2007 & 2010.

They are USD 350 mio (US) and USD 95 mio. (outside US) for 2006 with projections of USD 865/206 mio for 2007 and USD 2,150/665 mio für 2010. (eMarketer original research, October 2006)

These numbers do, of course, depend highly on the underlying definition of “online social network”. They compare interestingly to the number I took from Götz Haman’s article Neue Mode (in ZEIT 7/2007 - link for: Haman, Neue Mode - see also myFeb 16, 2007 post ZEIT for the Internet).

Haman quotes MySpace as expecting a (largely ad-based) revenue of USD 500 mio in 2007 alone, with Facebook claiming USD 50 mio for 2006.
