… warum genau wollen wir das jetzt so machen?

Faster than the Internet (almost)

Home for Christmas, I got to watch a DVD with filmed footage of my hometown in the days immediately after the end of the war in May 1945. What struck me most were images of the central train station, May 8 or a couple of days later, absolutely reduced to rubble and bands of twisted metal. There was, tied to some leftever handrails, an unchipped, brand new enamel advertising board, about 1.7 by 0.8 meters, inviting the bombed out to TRINK COCA-COLA.

My, that was fast. Probably not isolated, either. And as there was US army personnel taking pictures, probably all over the Wochenschau in no time, too.
