I remember a UK mouthwash ad from the 80s. Before: picture of a tongue with 2 sumo wrestlers on it. After: picture of a tongue with a lotus blossom. How's that for angst? Underwater bad breath, on the other hand, is not a threat that keeps me awake at night...

That's the worst kind of advertising: surreptitiously addressing your subconscious fears (of bad breath in this case) while appearing to create a feel good (brand) atmsophere.

Ok, this is what you get when you run with an iPad someone else's set up. Although I would have expected this guy to use English as his main language - or at least multiple keyboards.
So I went and typed the same text on my iPhone - and it turns out I can't reproduce the experience. Here's what I think is why:

a) I'm used to typing and mistyping on the iPhone. Typing and going back to fix mistakes is automatic by now, so I won't make the same typos I made on the iPad and hence won't get the same autocorrections.
b) I'm so used to typing on the iPhone that I do it at least semi-blind, meaning, I have an eye on the results and can catch most "corrections" when they come up. Which lets me hope that I'll soon be as fluent on the iPad.
c) The iPad keyboard is nothing like the iPhone keyboard. It has a similar (though not the same) weird layout, but the feel is totally different. If anything, the comparison is to a full-size e.g. laptop keyboard. And with keyboard sounds on, I get this very haptic phantom key-press effect, not that much different from a macbook or aluminum keyboard. Now I wonder if the switch between who full-kayboard layouts will continue to grate or if the significantly different haptic context of the iPad will allow my brain to hardwire a complete new set of muscle memories. Stay tuned.

Anja,

just quit reading "Die Zeit". The more copies they sell, the more misinformed and irrelevant they become.

Believe me, it helps. You will feel better.

Cheers!

Hi Clive, interesting parallel you draw here. I think LOHAS have a great strategy for making companies cater to their needs and wants (i.e. by positioning themselves as a large demographic with strong buying power, unlike, e.g. the feminist movement who never really tried that route or the gay movement who tried with limited success).
I hadn't so much thought about how the LOHAS movement is making itself attractive to prospective joiners. Do you think "sexiness" is IT (instead of, e.g. the warm fuzzy feeling of a good conscience) and if so, how do you define "sexiness"?

Hello from Cologne, you might be interested in my take on LOHAS with regards to accessibility on the web i.e. similarities and potential for promoting the wider cause of accessibility (online and offline) by targeting LOHAS. The essay was part of my final Masters project which is documented on this dedicated blog:

http://hismastersblog.wordpress.com/category/2_ma-dissertation

Due to the word count restriction I am fully aware this can only touch the surface of two potentially interwoven and complex topics.

Your thoughts and feedback would be very welcome.
